Art for Travellers - Fictive Geography
Curated by Brenda Barry Byrne

While Artist in Resident (Lumsden, Sk), Heather Cline has been working on two related series. Paintings entitled 'Art for Tourists' that document fake tourist attractions throughout the Town of Lumsden and box works, 'Art for Travellers' that are intimate pieces about travel and the individual. Clines work investigates the notion of how the paintings negotiate a strange space between the world documented by her digital camera and the fiction created through digital manipulation.

Lambs’ Tales - Judy McNaughton
Judy McNaughton’s work explores folklore, memory and experiences of prairie settlement. Inspired by conversations with family members, and others about homesteading, the told stories are filled with cruelty, destruction, and the tenacious spark of hope and new life. Using the yearly cycle of lambing as a metaphor, Judy delves into the parallel struggle of new-born lambs on the threshold between life and death with the struggle of homestead families in a new beginning, or the death of hopes in a strange place. This exhibit is discovery of some of the issues that make up our collective Saskatchewan heritage, and how we as individuals are shaped by it.

Art Abilities
Through a connection made with the Prince Albert Branch of the Association for Community Living, the Art Gallery of Prince Albert held weekly art classes for children and youth with intellectual disabilities through July and August. The work in the Fringe and Studio Galleries is the culmination of these weekly classes. The ‘Friday Art Class’ gave these young people the opportunity to become an active participant in the Art Gallery, and by showing the work in a formal setting, in the larger artistic community as well. This was a wonderful outlet for learning more about abilities, rather than focussing on disabilities.

Convergence
Andree Martinson, George Glenn, Karen Skoronski, Myles McDonald
Prince Albert visual artists, Andree Martinson, George Glenn, Karen Skoronski and Myles McDonald have known, liked and respected each other for a number of years. Four years ago they began meeting once a month and during the course of their convivial conversations, took turns setting the challenge or theme for future meetings and dialogue. The four disparate aesthetics have produced an accumulation of visual artifacts, some flippant, some enigmatic, some poetic, some profound. Works in the exhibition are a result of the collectives monthly convergence and conversations

The Intangible
This exhibition will present works by contemporary artists purchased by or donated to the Mendel Art Gallery in the last three years. The works in the exhibit exemplify many of the qualities that characterise the late-Modern world; loss, ambiguity, uncertainty and recuperation through catharsis and memory. This exhibition examines the way that contemporary artists give shape to the intangible and formless realms of memory, feelings, and loss through their material production. Works by major national and international artists will be exhibited.
